Bride and Bougie?

The important thing to keep in mind is that I finally found my wedding dress. It only took me buying a dress I DID NOT want to find the one for me.

I never had a dream wedding dress. As I began to plan my wedding, I never envisioned a certain style or look for my dress. I did know that I wasn't a fan of strapless dresses because of how much I despise my shoulders. I was pretty open to trying pretty much everything.

I was lucky enough to have all my girls home during a weekend in October so we decided to go try on dresses at a local boutique. After trying on 10-15 dresses, I thought I found the one! So.. I bought it. Just like that. I didn't love it but I didn't think that I'd ever actually love a dress. 5 minutes after leaving the boutique I had serious buyers remorse. My bridesmaids took tons of photos of the dresses and as I was looking at them, I kept thinking.. That is so NOT ME. "I hate tulle why did I buy a dress with so much tulle!" The boutique was kind enough to let me come back the next day to look at other dresses, but I never found "the one" at that boutique.

Wedding dress shopping tips from ya girl that has not one but TWO wedding gowns -

  • Keep your dress shopping team small:
I kept it super small with just a few of my bridesmaids whose opinions I trust the most. I didn't want to bring too many of my girlfriends because I knew it would get too overwhelming with everyone's opinions.
  • Try on EVERYTHING
Try on different types of dresses.. even ones that are out of your comfort zone. For me this was strapless dresses. I hate the way my shoulders look so I avoided these in the beginning. Turns out I actually love the fit of strapless dresses and that was the style I ended up choosing!
  • Set a budget
Set a price range for your dress and stick to it! Make sure to factor in alterations. This was easy for me. I had a budget in mind and only picked out dresses in my price range.
  • Decide how to shop
Trunk shows, sample sales, online, the list goes on and on. The small boutique in the city may have some great stuff but don't forget to check out other bridal salons.

In the end, I found the perfect dress for me. I guess I did have a dream wedding dress all along. And guess what?! It ended up being a strapless dress. Although I will add straps so I'm more comfortable. The best advice I can give is to shop outside your typical bridal boutiques. The experience at a larger bridal salon is definitely different from a boutique BUT I can honestly say that these places shouldn't be overlooked. My dream dress was found at David's Bridal.

Happy wedding dress shopping!
